A small chicken coop will usually be the size of a bathroom cabinet. People can buy a bathroom cabinet and build a chicken coop out of it. The chicken coop is already built due to the wood of the cabinet and the doors that will be used for the coop. It will take some creativity and a little bit of added building to turn it into an actual chicken coop.
Used bathroom cabinets can be found cheap at a salvation army store or any used furniture store. The inside of the cabinet will need to be made up as a proper chicken coop. This means that the shelves of the cabinet will need to be removed. Most bathroom cabinets have staples that may be hard to pull out, and in the end, the cabinet may come apart. It is okay if the cabinet comes apart.
The only things that will be used for the chicken coop are the front of the cabinet along with the doors. For the sides of the cabinet it will need new reinforcements since the rest of the cabinet will likely come apart. When using the front part of a bathroom cabinet it would look better if the coop had long legs so that it can raise up off the ground. The coop will need to be raised at least fifteen inches off the ground so a person will need four 2×2 boards that will be used for the legs.
The roof of the cabinet will need to be around five inches preceding the primary cabinet, so that the roof can be sloped. Two of the 2×2 boards will need to be cut five inches. The other two boards will need to be cut five inches shorter than the other two legs. The sides of the chicken coop will need to be cut out of wafer type boards. One side wall will be placed onto two of the cut 2×2 boards and nailed in.
The other side wall will be placed on the other 2×2 boards and nailed in. The front of the bathroom cabinet will need to be placed onto the front of the newly built chicken coop. The front will need to be connected to the lateral sides. The chicken coop will be wobbly at first until the floor is put in. Using a wire for the floor will give the correct amount of ventilation that the chickens will need during hot days.
During the colder months the wiring can be plugged with some plywood to keep the chickens warm. The ends of the wire will need to covered for safety measures. There should not be any screws with sharp points that are exposed either. Once the wire is connected to the bottom of the cabinet, and along the top of the cabinet the chicken owner can build a small area for the food trays.
